Prior to your first fitting you'll need to determine and purchase your accessories. This includes your jewelry, veil, headpiece, wrap and clutch. You must also have your undergarments and shoes for all fittings. Switching your bra or changing your heel height can cause your dress to not fit properly. You'll need to bring all of these items with you to every fitting.
First fitting:
The first fitting usually takes place about six weeks before your wedding. Bring a friend or family member with you for advice. This fitting is used for you to make sure that your gown is the right size, color and design. The seamstress will look for places where your dress needs to be shortened, lengthened, taken in or let out. While the seamstress is working on these details take a close look at how the material lays on your body. How does the waist feel? How about your chest? Do you see any bunching or bulging areas? Take a close look at the stitching and beading. Try to view all angles. Speak up if you notice anything you don't like. Second fitting:
You should schedule your second fitting about a month before your wedding. Bring your accessories, undergarments, shoes and a friend with you. You'll want to make sure all of your concerns from the first fitting are fixed. Make sure that you can move in your gown and that it stays in one place. Check for any bulging, wrinkling and bunching. The hem should skim the top of your shoes. Speak up if you notice anything that doesn't look right. Schedule additional fittings until you're satisfied with how everything looks.
Final fitting:
The seamstress will set up a final fitting. Bring a friend or family member with you so they can learn how to bustle your gown, button or zip you up.
Pick up:
You should be able to pick up your dress at least two weeks before your wedding. Try on the gown one last time to make sure the gown still fits perfectly.
