A classy ride

When selecting transportation for your wedding pick something that is functional, fits within your theme and mimics your personalities.

For you and the wedding party:

Reserve your transportation at least nine months in advance during peak season (April, May and June) and at least six months in advance any other time.

Ask about wedding packages or deals. Some vendors will offer complimentary champagne or upgrades just for inquiring. Others offer a discounted rate if you book the service for your bachelor and/or bachelorette festivities.

Most limo services only offer packages for a minimum of three or four hours. If your travel plans consist of a 20-minute trip to your venue then you should consider a less expensive option.

Pay the minimum deposit to reserve the service to help minimize your loss if the service is unacceptable. Check your contract to see if tipping is included. If it isn't plan on tipping 15 to 20 percent.

Set up pick-up and drop-off times so you're not paying the driver waiting time.

Make sure the contract includes the date, hours, pickup locations, amenities, the driver's name and attire, the make, model, year and color of the car in addition to the cancellation and refund policy information.

Get an after-hours phone number from the vendor in case of emergencies.

Talk with the driver ahead of time to make sure he or she has directions to all of your locations and has an up to date schedule.

Select someone to call the driver approximately 30 minutes before their expected arrival to make sure he or she is on time.

Pack any beverages and glasses you will need during transit.

For your guests:

Be sure to include parking information for each venue.

See if your hotel offers a shuttle or bus service to take guests to and from your reception.

Call and make reservations for several cabs to be sitting outside your reception venue at the end of the night.
