I have 8 great ideas to help occupy your youngest guests.
1. Think about having a candy toss for children younger than 15. Schedule this before the bouquet and garter toss. The bride and groom will face backward and toss out candy to all of the kids in attendance.
2. Create a kid-friendly area in a corner of the reception venue with toys, dolls, blocks and coloring books. Hire a babysitter to keep an eye on this spot. Or, set up a separate room with a television to play cartoons.
3. Provide children's tables for your guests ages 3 to 12. Younger children should be seated with their parents.
4. Create children's tables with centerpieces of floral-shape cookies, lollipops or crayons. Use paper table cloths or coloring book pages for place mats.
5. Keep guests occupied with a scavenger hunt or other games. Give each child a disposable camera and a list of items they have to photograph.
6. To prevent fussy, hungry meltdowns provide a few snacks at the kid's table.
7. Provide goodie bags filled with puzzles, games, coloring books, crayons and other child-friendly items.
8. A children's menu is a must. Kids prefer mac and cheese and chicken nuggets instead of gourmet dishes. Use cups with lids to avoid spills.
